EQUITY OFFICERS

OUR ROLE

As the Law School’s student co-Equity Officers we are responsible for engaging with and looking after student equity issues at the student level, and for liaising with Faculty equity staff at making students’ concerns known.

We also head the Equity Council, which is made up of representatives from law school Equity groups. Currently these include:

  • Auckland University Law Students’ Society (AULSS)

  • Te Rākau Ture (TRT)

  • Pacific Island Law Student Association (PILSA)

  • Korean Law Students’ Association (KLSA)

  • South Asian Law Students’ Association (SALSA)

  • UoA Women in Law (WIL)

  • Rainbow Law (RL)

The Equity Council aims to foster a collaboration between equity groups and resolve prevalent matters within Law School. The Equity Council ensures that we understand specific equity issues that may be unique to the different groups.

We want to ensure that we are representing all students’ needs and encourage anyone who does not feel represented by an existing group to start their own. We want an all-inclusive law school!

If you are still confused about who we are and where we sit in the student leadership tīma (team), here is a diagram:

We also work closely with the Associate Dean (Equity), whom as of this year is Nikki Chamberlain (woohoo!). We are very much looking forward to working together to make law school a more equitable place for all students.
